Link client contacts

You may have a client contact who is also an individual client, such as a company director. You may want to identify that the contact and the client are linked which allows you to easily switch between the client record for the individual and the client record for the company that Individual is a contact for. You can do this by linking them.

Once the link has been made, the client and contact continue to exist as separate entities, but their contact details can be synced across records. If you changed their contact name on the client record, it will be reflected on their individual record too.

  1. From the Clients menu, select Clients list.
  2. Change the client list view to either Active clients or a custom view that includes all relevant clients.
  3. If any of the entries are greyed out and you cannot select them, this is a restricted item — the parent client record has been set to Private and you do not have access. If you believe this is a mistake, contact your IRIS Elements administrator. Users who have Administrator level permissions are able to view all public and private client records, even those where they are not named as assigned users.

  4. On the Contacts tab, find the required contact.
  5. Scroll to the bottom of the contact record, then under LINKS, select Link to another Contact.

Any potential linked contacts are displayed as a suggestion. Simply select the tick next to the suggested link confirm them as a linked contact.

  6. Begin typing the contact you want to link to, then select their name.
  7. Use the left and right arrows to select the information to merge between the contacts.

  8. Any linked contacts will be displayed on the contact card in the company, and for the individual.

When you activate a client for their second (or subsequent) company, they are not sent an activation email, as long as you enter the same email address. Instead, this new company is associated with their existing login. A This existing user can now switch to this company message is displayed.
