DfE Automated Returns 6.4.0. — For Financial Year 2023 to 2024
The version 6.4.0. release for the DfE Automated Returns module contains the coding and grouping information required to submitted returns for the 2023/24 academic year.
What's Uploaded for the 2023/24 Financial Year
- Data from periods 01 to 97 for the 2023/24 financial year
- Opening balances for specific nominals from period 00
- Auditor adjustments posted into periods, such as 13, 14, and 97
Install DfE Automated Returns Version 6.4.0.
Use IRIS Autoupdater to install the DfE AR Upload v6.4.0.abp package. Once installed, the package will:
- Create the following indexes and associate index values against the relevant nominals:
- AR202324 Accounts Return 2023/24.
- ARB202324 Accounts Return Benchmarking 2023/24.
- ARC202324 Accounts Return Counterparty 2023/24.
- Create NOMPARENT and OBALNOM indices and automatically link it with all required nominals.
- Set up a Company Number in User Fields on the Academy ledger to store the school company reference number.

New Features
DfE Academy Settings
Before using DfE Automated Returns for the first time, you must enter your Trust Unique Provider Identification Number (UPIN) and Unique Reference Number (URN) for each academy.
To enter these details, go to Options, then select DfE Academy Return Settings.
OBALNOM Index
To upload brought forward balance data from the previous financial year, DfE Automated Returns uses the OBALNOM index.
The index should be automatically added to all nominals when DfE Automated Returns version 5.2.0. is installed. To check if any nominals have not been linked correctly, check all required nominals before uploading your return.
Fixes and Updates
- DfE Chart of Accounts version 6.4.0 coding added.
- Resolved issues with Academies being wrongly identified as the Multi-Academy Trust when submitting DfE Automated Returns.
- Opening balances now calculate as expected by the DfE.
- The URN label has been changed to LAESTAB in the DfE Academy Settings.
