Manage Grading Types
Use the Certification tab in the Curriculum Manager module to define the different types of grading used in your school. For example, 'Midterm' and 'Final Exam'.
Grading types must be set up first before sets and then periods are specified.
- Open the Curriculum Manager and select the Certification tab.
- Select Manage Grading Types from the right hand menu:
- All grading types are listed here.
- The details displayed and how they are displayed is determined by the settings in entity preferences. See Update Grading Management entity preferences for more help with this.
- Use the drop-down in the top right of the screen to change the Group By setting if required.
- Use the navigation tools at the bottom of the screen to display the grading types that you want to work with.
- Choose to:
Add a grading type
- Select Add Grading Type in the header to display the Manage Grading Types window:

Complete the fields displayed in the Grading Type Properties tab:

- Set the status of the grading type. Selecting 'No' marks the grading type as 'Inactive'.
- Set this grading type as the default. Only one grading type can be marked as the 'Default'.
- Select Save & Close.
Change the order of grading types
Change the order that grading types are displayed in Ed:gen.
- Select Order Grading Types in the header. The Arrange Grading Types window is displayed:
- Select a grading type and use the arrows to move it up or down the list.
- Select Save & Close to close this window and return to the Manage Grading Types screen.
Copy a grading type
- Scroll to the grading type that you want to copy and click the copy grading type icon. A popup window is displayed:

- Select Save & Close.
Edit a grading type
Update the details of a grading type if required. For example, change the status of a grading type currently marked as 'Active'.
- Scroll to the grading set that you want to edit and click the edit icon. The Manage Grading Types window is displayed:

- Two other tabs are available, these are explained as follows:
- Metadata. Any metadata fields set up for grading types are listed here. Add values for the metadata fields as required.
- Audit. Any changes made to the grading set are listed here.
- Select Save & Close. The amended grading type is listed.
Delete a grading type
Remove a grading type that has been added in error.
You cannot delete a grading type which is active.
- Scroll to the grading type that you want to delete and click the delete icon. You are prompted Are you sure you want to delete this grading type?
- Select Yes. The grading type is removed. A log is kept under the Logging tab for auditing purposes.
