Delete client relationships
There are two ways to remove an active relationship from a client record, depending on what information you want to keep:
- Remove the relationship from both client records, but keep a record of the relationship.
- Delete the relationship from both client records completely. Data about that specific relationship is deleted from the relevant client records. Documents such as tax returns and produced accounts remain associated to the relevant client record. For this reason, it's best to only delete relationships if you:
- Added the relationship by mistake and want to remove it.
- Don't need to keep a record of the relationship.
What data is deleted from IRIS Elements products
When a relationship is removed or deleted from IRIS Elements, the following processes occur in other IRIS Elements products which you must act on:
IRIS Elements Accounts Production (any level)
If you are an IRIS Elements Accounts Production subscriber, it is recommended you remove the relationship instead of deleting it to mirror the same process in Companies House. When relationships are removed:
- The individuals involved are no longer made available to be approval signatories for accounts.
- The individuals involved are removed from the active officers list.
- iXBRL data is preserved for previously generated reports.
- In progress corporate tax returns (CT600) can still be submitted.
- An audit trail is kept showing from when the removed relationship was active to now.
When an active relationship is deleted from IRIS Elements, accounts records are affected and can have a knock-on effect to any linked tax returns:
- If a relationship to an approval signatory was deleted, submitted accounts with that deleted party now have the approver's name removed from the iXBRL tag.
- If the account with the missing name is attached to a CT600 tax return, HMRC will reject it because the name reference is missing.
IRIS Elements Company Secretarial
If you are an IRIS Elements Company Secretarial subscriber and you are ending the relationship of a director to a business, this also triggers a TM01 form.
IRIS Elements Tax (any level) and IRIS Elements Tax and Accounts
If you are an IRIS Elements Tax or IRIS Elements Tax and Accounts subscriber and you are removing a partner from a relationship, any in-progress SA800s and SA100s are unlinked. Those already submitted are unaffected.
