Change an accounting period

If you subscribe to IRIS Elements Accounts Production (any level), refer to Change the accounting period or Delete an accounting period.

To change the details of the accounting period for a CT600 return, you need to over-type the start and end dates on the Client / case details tab. Refer to View or edit client / case details.

If you also need to change the accounting period within the accounts, you'll need to follow the process detailed below to prevent duplication of returns and or accounts.

If you're changing the period to one that HMRC is not expecting, you must notify them to prevent the return from being rejected.

  1. Go to Clients > Client List and find the required client.

  2. From the Corporate tax returns widget on the client dashboard, select the required return.

  3. Select the Data input tab.

  4. Highlight the attached accounts to view, then select Delete Section to remove them.

  5. Select the Client/case details tab and overtype the start and end period of the accounts with the correct dates. Select Save changes.

  6. At the top of the page, select Go to client dashboard.

  7. From the Accounts or Accounts Production widget, select the required accounts.

  8. On the Details tab, over-type the start and end dates with the correct dates, then select Save changes.

  9. Unless you need to change the signatory date or other details, select the Check & File tab. Select Re-attach and attach the accounts. The correct dates are shown.

  10. Select update / skip as required. You can then submit the tax return as normal.
