Manage GPA Methods

Use the Certification tab in the Curriculum Manager module to view and manage the different grade point average (GPA) calculation methods used for grading, marking and assessing the students in your school.

To manage GPA methods, follow the steps below:

  1. Open the Gradebooks module and select the Certification tab.
  2. Select Manage GPA Methods from the right hand menu to display this screen:
    • All of the GPA methods are listed.
    • The details displayed and how they are displayed is determined by the settings in entity preferences. See Update GPA Management entity preferences for more help with this.
    • Hover over any column header icons shown for more information.
  3. Use the drop-down in the top right of the screen to change the Group By setting if required.
  4. Use the navigation tools at the bottom of the screen to display the methods that you want to work with.
  5. Choose to:

Add a GPA method

  1. Select Add GPA Method in the header. A popup window is displayed:
  2. Complete the fields displayed:

    Section Explanation
    GPA Method Properties
    • Enter a name, code and description for the method.
    • GPA Method Set. Select a GPA set for the method.

    Use the drop downs to:

    • Set the status of the method. Selecting 'No' marks the method as 'Inactive'.
    • Set this method as the default. Only one GPA method can be marked as the 'Default'. This is preselected when working with GPA methods.
  3. Select Save & Close. The GPA method is listed.

GPA method matrix

This feature is not currently available.

Order GPA methods

Methods can only be rearranged within the set they are listed in.

  1. Group the listed GPA methods by set. Select the Group By drop-down in the top right of the screen and select 'GPA Set'
  2. Select the order GPA methods icon for any GPA method within the set that you want to rearrange. A popup window is displayed:
  3. Select a method in the list shown and use the blue arrows on the right to move it as required.
  4. Select Save & Close once you have made all the changes required.

Copy a GPA method

  1. Select the copy GPA method icon in the GPA method that you want to copy. A popup window is displayed:
  2. Complete the fields displayed in the GPA Method Properties tab:

    • Enter a clear and concise name, code and description for the method.
    • GPA Method Set. Use the drop-down list to select the GPA set for the new GPA method. The options listed are preconfigured for you.
    GPA Level Options

    Use the drop downs to:

    • Set the status of the method. Selecting 'No' marks the method as 'Inactive'.
    • Set this method as the default. Only one GPA method can be marked as the 'Default'. This is preselected when working with GPA methods.
  3. Select Save & Close.

Edit a GPA method

  1. Select the edit icon in the GPA method that you want to work with. A popup window is displayed:

  3. Two other tabs are available, these are explained as follows:
    • Metadata. Any metadata fields set up for GPA methods are listed here. Add values for the metadata fields as required.
    • Audit. Any changes made to the GPA method are listed here.
  4. Select Save & Close.

Delete a GPA method

  1. Select the delete icon in the GPA method that you want to delete. You are prompted Are you sure you want to delete this GPA method?
  2. Select Yes. The method is deleted.
