Staff Categories

The Staff Categories feature is an IRIS standard category for grouping your staffing levels for IRIS reports. They are not meant to be used for staff permissions.

We use them for grouping people together to show the results in graphs in the Time Statement dashboard and to summarise the time spent on delivering client work in the Resourcing dashboard.

To create them in IRIS you need to go to the Time Ledger, click File at the top-left of the screen, go to Categories and select Staff Categories and this window will open.

Click New to create each staffing level and go to Staff Maintenance to know how to link each person to these staffing categories.


Client Categories

In IRIS you are allowed to have up to six client categories. Firstly, you need to specify a name for each of your categories, for example, Status or Client Grade. To do this you need to go to System Maintenance | Practice | Practice Options | General tab.


Type in a name for each of the categories, you don't have to use all of them and you can take a look at the suggested examples below:

 

Secondly, you need to create the options within each category. To do this, you need to go to IRIS Time Ledger or Fees Ledger, click File in the top-left and go to Categories and select the appropriate category for this screen to open:


Click New to create the required choice; these are our suggested examples.

 

Status (Category 1)

ID Description
CLIENT Client - Live
CONTACT Contacts - mailing purpose only
DELETE Lost client -to delete from database
NLA No longer acting - WIP & Fees o/s only
NON CLIENT Non client - reporting purpose only
POTENTIAL Potential client - mailing purposes only

 

Credit Control (Category 2)

Client Structure (Category 4)

These choices are now available to be set against your required client as shown in Client Maintenance.

 

Staff Departments

The departments categories feature is an IRIS standard category for grouping your staffing levels by function for IRIS reports.

They are used for grouping people together to show the results in graphs in the Time Statement dashboard.

To create them in IRIS you need to go to the IRIS Time Ledger or Fees Ledger, click File at the top-left of the screen, go to Categories and select Departments and this window will open.

Click New to create each department level and go to Staff Maintenance to know how to link each person to these staffing categories.
