Set up shared parental pay

On the Statutory Pay menu, click Set Up Shared Parental Pay (Birth) or Set Up Shared Parental Pay (Adoption). Any previous ShPP periods are displayed.

Click Add Payment.

On the Partner tab, enter the surname, forenames and NI number of the employees partner.

If the partner is the mother of the child, select the Partner is the mother of the Child box.

In the Maternity Leave Details and Maternity Pay Details sections, enter the start date, end date, and weeks taken (these are usually the same).
The Curtailment date is the date the mother returned to work and is the same date as the Maternity end date.

Enter the date the mother returned to work. This is the same as the curtailment date as it's the day their maternity leave switches to shared parental leave.

On the Details tab, using the MAT B1 form, enter the Expected date of birth and Actual date of birth. This will populate the Qualifying Week date.

In the Parental Leave Details and Parental Pay Period Details sections, enter the period of the shared parental leave (these are usually the same).

If the mother (or adoptive parent) has died, the employee is entitled to all remaining leave. Enter the Date of Death and select the Mother or adoptive parent has died box.
Once these details are complete, the Average Weekly Earnings (AWE) value is updated.
For new installations, where there is insufficient pay history, select the Override Weekly Earnings box and enter the amount.

To stop paying normal salary during the parental leave period, select the Stop payment of normal salary box. This will pro-rata the employee’s salary for any part months or weeks at the start and end of the period.
You must have the pro-rata options set in System Setup for this function.

To pay the employer pension using the employee’s usual salary, enter this value in the Notional Pensionable Pay box and select the Pay employer pension box.

Select the Payments tab.

The SMPP weeks that have already been paid, and that are due to be paid, are displayed. Click Schedule of Payments button to view a detailed payment schedule.

Click OK to save.
