Statutory Maternity Pay (SMP)

Statutory Maternity Pay (SMP) is where an employee can take time off work after giving birth. They can have up to 39 weeks of paid leave if they qualify for SMP.

Statutory Maternity Leave is 52 weeks, made up of:
Ordinary Maternity Leave - first 26 weeks
Additional Maternity Leave - last 26 weeks

MAT B1

The MAT B1 is a medical reference for SMP designed to enable a pregnant woman to claim SMP. It also confirms the actual date of birth for use when setting up SMP.

Statutory Sick Pay (SSP)

Employees may be entitled to SSP when they are off work due to illness.

Ordinary Statutory Paternity Pay (OSPP)

Allows a father, husband or partner of the mother (or adopter), the child's adopter, or an intended parent (through surrogacy) to take time off work to help the mother. They can currently have up to 2 weeks of paid leave if they qualify for OSPP.

The term OSPP replaces the old SPP (Statutory Paternity Pay).

Statutory Adoption Pay (SAP)

If someone adopts a child, one guardian can take up to 39 weeks of paid leave if they qualify.

Shared Parental Pay (ShPP)

A person claiming SMP or SAP may end their leave early, and the remainder used by another parent, this leave will be ShPP.

Statutory Parental Bereavement Pay (SPBP)

If a child under 18 passes away, the parent may be entitled to 2 weeks of SPBP.
