Data Share and Snowflake Credits

As an administrator, you can now view and access data uploaded to the Snowflake warehouse, via the Data Share feature in IRIS Central.

This feature has been designed to make reporting and analytics more accessible and easier to understand by presenting data through simplified views.

This means you can view and build the reports you need without the complexity of the underlying data.

Using Snowflake Credits to Access Data Share

When you use the Data Share feature, you will need to use credits to pay for the processing time used to query data from the Snowflake warehouse.

These credits are used for the time and resources required to process, store, and manage data within the Snowflake platform. Credits are consumed based on the number of virtual warehouses used to process your data, as well as their running time and their size.

A Snowflake credit is equal to one hour of usage, with a minimum requirement of one minute. However, after one minute of inactivity, data processing will automatically be suspended and your Snowflake credit(s) will not be used.

The amount of Snowflake credits you use depends on how much computing power and resources you need.

If you are using Power BI or other analytics packages, you can import datasets before developing dashboards to avoid using credits, when not needed.

For more information on compute costs and Snowflake, please visit the Snowflake Documentation centre.

Accessing Data Share

Once the Data Share has been enabled for your school, you will be able to access the feature via the Data Share tab.

From here, you will be able to check the StatusUsage History and Credit Purchase History

You will also be able to purchase more credits, if needed.
