Test an ID Point

You must stop the IRIS BioStore service before testing an IDPoint. You can do this from the Control tab.

You can test an IDPoint by selecting the device you want to test from the Configuration tab, and then selecting the Test IDPoint button.

The Test IDPoint window displays test options and the IDPoint's status. When the IDPoint has been connected to, the status window will display Connected, and the IDPoint will display Testing IDPoint.

The following options are available to test:

Authentication methods:

  • Keypad — Keys pressed on the IDPoint will be displayed in the status window. You can use this to check that all required keys are working. Note that the physical keys and the keys appearing in the status window may not match; this is because of the firmware and is not an issue.
  • Finger — Scan a finger and the status window will display the resolution of the scanned template. Use this to check that the finger scanner is working.
  • Card — Scan a card and the status window will display the card number (in decimal or hexadecimal as selected). Use this to check that the card scanner is working.

Serial communication:

  • If the IDPoint is connected via a serial connection, you can use these options to test communication between the IDPoint and the device it's connected to.
  • Enable serial port — Tick this checkbox to enable serial port testing.
  • Baud rate — The baud rate controls the rate of data transmission. Change this as required by selecting an option from the dropdown menu.
  • Init — Select this button to initialise the serial port for testing.
  • Data — Enabled once you select Init. Data that you enter here will be sent via serial to the IDPoint, e.g. a card number, a person's Bio ID, or another value.
  • To send a carriage return after the data you enter, enable Send Return.
  • Send Data — Select this button to send the entered data to the IDPoint. Data sent will be displayed in the status window.

LED test:

  • Select the Test LEDs button to ensure the IDPoint's LEDs are working correctly. The status window will display which LEDs are being tested.
