Discovery

The Discovery tool allows you to interrogate network attached devices and provide results that may be exported into IRIS Assets.

Devices

Devices displays the network devices previously discovered by the Discovery tool, organised by device type. The device headings in the table depend on those found when Discovery was last run and typically may contain the following:

  • Desktop
  • Laptop
  • Printer
  • Server
  • Unknown — This is items that cannot be identified as specific device types and may include switches, hubs, and so on.

Select the relevant Device Type to see the devices that have been found. This presents the devices with any of the following (where available):

  • Asset ID (if the asset is linked)
  • IP address
  • MAC address
  • Make
  • Last update — The date when the Discovery tool was last run
  • More...

Select More Details to view further information about a device, which typically may contain the following:

  • Make
  • Operating system
  • Processor type
  • Name
  • Serial number
  • Storage capacity and free space
  • Installed memory
  • Software installed — This is only included if Include Software is selected when the Discovery tool was run

If required, the relevant Asset Manager asset ID can be input. This then links the information in the Discovery tool with the asset and can be viewed in the Edit Asset page.

History Comparison

In this first screen, compare an exported asset's details from two dates by entering:

  • MAC address
  • First date
  • Second date

The comparison table lists each network device and gives the asset details on the two dates that you have requested, highlighting any changes in red.

The Network Device Reporting page allows you to search for one of the following items:
