Using the Member Explorer

The Member Explorer is used to show, find, filter and navigate around your hierarchy. Most of the available options are available from the toolbar.

It is used in the Data Explorer, Published Reports or via Excel.

Toolbar

Enter a keyword in the Search field and click the Search icon (magnifying glass) to search for a specific member.

The following table lists the function for each button on the toolbar. 

Member List

The member list displays the current hierarchy represented as a navigation tree.

Selecting Members

Click a member name to select it. You can select multiple members using the standard SHIFT and CTRL key methods:

  • To select simultaneously listed members, click on the first member, hold down the SHIFT key, then click on the last member.
  • To select multiple members, click on the first member, hold down the CTRL key, then click on each subsequently required member.

Re-ordering Members

Members can be reordered in the list by dragging and dropping them to their required location.

Using the Cart

Similar to a shopping cart, the cart is used to store selected members whilst you continue determining what other members you want to add. It is additive so that any new member added to it will append, not replace the contents.

Adding Members to the Cart

There are two ways that members can be added to the cart, either via drag and drop or by clicking the Add to Cart icon on the toolbar. Any members can be added to the cart in any order and duplicates can also be added.

Once the required members have been selected from the Member List, click, hold and drag the members over to the cart area (which will change to a solid green colour) then release.

Once dropped into the cart, the selected members will appear as the contents of the cart or be added to any existing contents. Repeat as required.

Another method of adding members to the cart is via the Add All/Selected Members icon on the toolbar. If no members are selected, clicking this icon will add all members to the cart. If members have been selected, clicking this icon will add the selected members to the cart.

Removing Members from the Cart

Members can be removed from the cart by clicking the red cross icon adjacent to the member name. If you want to remove all members from the cart, click the Empty button.

Button Bar

The button bar is displayed at the bottom of the Member of Explorer where buttons dynamically change depending on what options are available.

When the Member Explorer is opened from a data view dimension tree, the RowColumn, or Slicer buttons are displayed enabling the members displayed in the Member List to be added to the row, column or slicer as required.
