Sending a Data View to Microsoft Excel

The simplest way to create a report is to generate a data view containing the foundation of the report, then send it to Excel for formatting and publishing.

IRIS Analytics report information created from a view can be sent to Excel:

  • As a formatted spreadsheet containing formulae which enables the report to link to IRIS Analytics.
  • As a formatted spreadsheet containing MDX formulate (for advanced users with knowledge of MDX only).
  • As a formatted spreadsheet containing values only enabling users who do not have IRIS Analytics to view the report (although the content of the report cannot be updated with any changes made in IRIS Analytics).

The available options are displayed in a drop-down list when you click the XLS icon on the toolbar.

Send to Excel

This option enables you to create editable, publishable reports that will maintain links to the data. Selecting this option allows your data to be written to an Excel workbook on the server, then sent to you as a download in your browser.

You can then edit your report by hiding headers, changing colours and fonts, and customise using all the standard Excel functionality.

Send As MDX and Send as Reflex

Selecting this option is for advanced users who have knowledge of the uses of Analysis Services MDX syntax to provide a link to the data.

Send as Values

Selecting this option opens a formatted Excel spreadsheet containing values without any underlying data/formula information which enables user who don't have IRIS Analytics knowledge to view the report.
