Amending a tax return
The method of submitting an amended tax return is different for Self-Assessment returns and Corporation tax returns, notes for both are included below.
Where you have not attached the accounts from Taxfiler by IRIS, please ignore the sections:

removing the accounts from the CT600 tax return

re-attaching the accounts to the CT600 tax return
You will be able to file an amended CT600 tax return when you have not prepared the original return in Taxfiler by IRIS, you will need to complete the tax return in Taxfiler by IRIS first, manually entering the values and follow the instructions for Advising HMRC the return is amended.
Amending a CT600 tax return
To amend a CT600 and resend when an acceptance has been received by HMRC:

Take a copy of the acceptance response from HMRC before amending the return – this can be found when you select the tab for Review & File.

Cancel the current submission via the Review & File tab.

Select the Amend this Tax Return.

Select Confirm you wish to remove this response and amend the Tax Return, and select Confirm.

Select the Data Input tab.

Select the appropriate data sheet in order to make the adjustments required.
Removing the accounts from the CT600 tax return

If you need to amend the accounts, remove the previously attached accounts from the Data Input screen.

Select the accounts and select Delete section.

Confirm the deletion, by selecting Delete.
There are no accounts displayed on the Data Input screen.
Amending the accounts

Access these accounts, via the Client / case details tab.

Select Goto client.

Select the Accounts tab.

Open the accounts for the appropriate period, make the required changes and save them.
Re-attaching the accounts to the CT600 tax return

Re-attach the accounts via the Check & File tab.

Select Re-attach.

Select Attach accounts to the return.

Select Update amounts to Tax Return.

You will now be returned to the tax return module, Trade Summary tab with the option to amend and save changes.
Advising HMRC the return is amended
Once you have completed the return and it is ready to be filed as an amendment, you will need to update the return to advise HMRC that an amended return is being submitted

Go to the Company information data sheet and select Is this an amended return?

Select the Review & File tab and continue with the submission process.

To confirm that you have activated the ‘amended tick,’ look to the left of where the IRmark has been generated ‘Amended return’ will show before the IRmark.
Removing the amended notification on a CT600 tax return

Cancel the current submission via the Review & File tab, by selecting Cancel this submission and unlock the return / remove IRmark.

Follow the onscreen prompts back to the first page on the Review & File tab where it displays the message HMRC validation checks have been completed successfully.

Select the Data Input tab.

To remove the amended status, you need to go to the Company information data sheet and untick Is this an amended return?

Select Save changes.

Once the return is completed, select Review & File tab and continue through the submission process.
Amended accounts for Companies House
Unlike HMRC, Companies House does not allow for electronic re-submission and so all amended accounts have to be submitted by paper.
You can download the ‘amended’ accounts from our software and follow the guidelines below.
Companies House have provided some information on how to provide these amended accounts:
Amending a SA100 tax return

Select the tax return that you wish to amend.

Cancel the current submission via the Review & File tab, by selecting Amend this Tax Return.
Take a copy of the acceptance response from HMRC before amending the return – this can be found when you select Review & File tab.

Confirm that you wish to amend the return.

Tick the box to confirm and then select Confirm.

This returns you to the Data Input tab where you can make any changes required, by selecting the appropriate data input sheet or select + Add a new section in order to include a new section.

Once the amended return is ready to be submitted select the Review & File tab where it displays the message ‘HMRC validation checks have been completed successfully.‘

You will need to update the return to advise HMRC that an amended return is being submitted

Select Tick if this is an amendment to a previous filing under Filing options.

Select Prepare for filing.

Removing the amended notification on a SA100 tax return

Cancel the current submission via the Review & File tab, by selecting Cancel this submission and unlock the return / remove Irmark.

Confirm that you wish to amend the return.

Tick the box to confirm and then select Confirm.

This returns you to the Data Input tab where you can make any changes required.

Once the return is ready to be submitted select the Review & File tab where it displays the message ‘HMRC validation checks have been completed successfully.‘

Remove the tick in the box ‘Tick if this is an amendment to a previous filing’.

Select the Data Input tab if there are further adjustments to be made to the return.

Once the return is completed, select the Review & File tab and continue through the submission process.
Unlocking a rejected return

To unlock a rejected return, go to the Review & file tab.

Select Cancel this submission.

Confirm that you wish to cancel the submission.

Return to the Data Input. Here you will be able to see the status of the return. If the status is locked then no data changes will be possible; you need to unlock the return in order to make changes.
