How to move PTP from one standalone PC to another

Step One - Installing PTP onto the new PC

PTP must be installed on the new PC. This can be done either by installing from the Downloads page on our website or via a DVD (available on request).

Please ensure that the latest version of PTP has been installed onto the new PC before proceeding.

Step Two - Backing up the information from the old PC

This can be done in one of two ways:

Making a quick backup

  1. Log on to PTP Tax Platform.

  2. Click the Backup/Restore Tax Database icon located on the tool bar.

  3. The program defaults to the Quick tab and will automatically select to backup all databases and the day of the week.

  4. Click Run.

  5. When the progress bar has reached 100% click OK on the Backup successful message.

This process will save a zipped copy of the data within the PTP backup location. The default location for this is C:\Program Files\PTP\PTPData\Platform\BACKUP* then double click on the yellow folder labelled with the relevant day of the week. This .ZIP file can then be copied to an external media for example a memory stick or a CD.

Making an eternal backup

  2. Click the Backup/Restore Tax Database icon located on the tool bar.

  3. Select the External tab.

  4. Select the external location by clicking on the  button to the left of the External Backup Drive/ Folder.

  5. Click Run.

  6. When making an external backup PTP will remove any existing information within the selected location, including any non PTP related information.

This process will save a zipped copy of the data within the external location selected.
