PTP must be installed on the new PC. This can be done either by installing from the Downloads page on our website or via a DVD (available on request).
Please ensure that the latest version of PTP has been installed onto the new PC before proceeding.
The PTP installation installs the current and previous year software. If you require access to years prior to this, you will also require the PTP Earlier Years installation. Please call our sales line on 0844 815 5530 for further information.
This can be done in one of two ways:
Log on to PTP Tax Platform.
Click the Backup/Restore Tax Database icon located on the tool bar.
The program defaults to the Quick tab and will automatically select to backup all databases and the day of the week.
Click Run.
When the progress bar has reached 100% click OK on the Backup successful message.
This process will save a zipped copy of the data within the PTP backup location. The default location for this is C:\Program Files\PTP\PTPData\Platform\BACKUP* then double click on the yellow folder labelled with the relevant day of the week. This .ZIP file can then be copied to an external media for example a memory stick or a CD.
Log on to PTP Tax Platform.
Click the Backup/Restore Tax Database icon located on the tool bar.
Select the External tab.
Select the external location by clicking on the button to the left of the External Backup Drive/ Folder.
Click Run.
When making an external backup PTP will remove any existing information within the selected location, including any non PTP related information.
This process will save a zipped copy of the data within the external location selected.
Users are required to log onto the new PC as an Administrator before restoring the data

Select the External tab and enable the Restore (Overwrite) all the current Databases option.

Browse to the location of the zipped data file, click on the ZIP file and click Open.
A prompt will be generated to confirm when the backup was taken, click OK to continue.
Once the progress bar has reached 100% click OK on the Restore Successful message.
The default backup location will be C:\PTP\PTPDATA\Platform\Backup. This is down to Microsoft’s Virtualisation system and increased security surrounding Program Files.
