There are a number of different versions of SQL.
Versions that are suitable for IRIS are:
SQL Server Express 2005/2008/2008R2 (all versions)
SQL Server 2005/2008/2008R2 (all versions)
The installation of versions other than that supplied by IRIS are not covered by this document, or supported by the IRIS Technical Support team.
Support ceased for all SQL Server 2000 variants (including MSDE) in April 2010.
The default installation of SQL Server Express is suitable for both networked and standalone versions of the IRIS Accountancy Suite. No further changes are required. The installation Help for SQL Server Express is on the IRIS DVD and is available from the IRIS website.
You will need to know the InstanceName when installing IRIS. IRIS recommends you carry out a default installation, leaving the instance name as ServerName \IRISPRACTICE as per the recommendations. If you change this, or install IRIS into a pre-existing instance of SQL, you will need to know the ServerName \ InstanceName when you come to install the IRIS Accountancy Suite.
Log on as an Administrator and install SQL Server Express on the computer that will be acting as the server. Ensure that the server is not being used during the installation, as a reboot may be required at the end of the install process.
The Installation of SQL Server should be carried out by your IT support staff, as it’s outside the scope of this document. You will need to know the ServerName of the computer where the SQL Server is installed and the InstanceName if it is not the default instance. Once SQL Server is installed, the IRIS installation can begin.
An installation guide for the relevant versions of SQL Server as provided by IRIS is sent out with the DVD.
