Some state benefits are taxable others are not:

Taxable

• Incapacity Benefit (but not the first 28 weeks or if payments commenced prior to 13/4/95)

• Invalidity Allowance

• Invalid Care Allowance

• Industrial Death Benefit

• Jobseeker's Allowance (formerly unemployment benefit)

• Statutory Maternity Pay paid by DSS

• Statutory Sick Pay

• Widowed Mother's Allowance

• Widow's Pension

Not Taxable

• Attendance allowance

• Child benefit

• Disability living allowance

• Incapacity benefit (first 28 weeks and all benefit where payments commenced prior to 13/4/95)

• Job finder's grant

• Maternity allowance (but include statutory maternity pay which is taxable)

• Widow's payment (this is a flat amount of £1,000. Include widow's pension which is taxable)

• Do not enter non-taxable benefits on IRIS. State pensions are entered separately
