Use the search criteria screen to help find a client.
There are three rules:
None of the searches are case sensitive so SMITH = smith = Smith
Any text entered is assumed to end with the wildcard * so, for example, entering Smith in the name field will locate Smithson and Smithers as well as plain Smith. The same applies to the numeric fields telephone and tax reference
If two or more search criteria are entered the search will be inclusive. For example: select client name "Smith" and telephone number "020", will produce a list containing all clients who's surname begins "Smith" who also have a telephone number starting with 020.
The search criteria will take wildcards * and ?. Entering *smith in the client name field will locate all Blacksmiths, Harvey-Smiths and so on, as well as all the Smiths. The ? wildcard is used to substitute single letters or numbers. So a search for client id A?001 will locate AA001, AB001, A1001 etc but would not match A001.
It is also possible to search for ranges. Entering R>T would locate all clients who's names started with the letters R, S or T.
The range separator can be changed in the Practice Options. The currently selected range separator is shown just below the title bar. We recommend using the '>' symbol rather than the colon ':' or hyphen '-'.
Client identifier - unlike the other options on this page, it does not restrict the range of clients included in the list. Entering F, for example, would simply position the list at the nearest match to identifier F. If a restriction is required, use the range separator: F>F would limit the list to client identifiers starting with the letter F.
County - do not enter a standard abbreviated county name, such as LEICS or HANTS, that is not a derivative of the full county name. In this example LEICS will find no matches because the full county name is LEICEstershire. Entering LEIC would work.
NI Number, Tax Reference - these options are useful for finding a client via the National Insurance number or Unique Taxpayer Reference (UTR). Any spaces entered are ignored when searching.
Partner, Manager, Client group - pick from the list of those set up on IRISPTP. It is not possible to use wildcards or more than one partner, manager or client group.
Client category - as above, pick from the list of pre-defined categories. It is not possible to use wildcards or to select more than one choice from each of the six IRISPTP categories.
D/B View, Include - these are the same as the database view and include options used on the main browser screen.
