On first entering the Business Tax Product the client identifier must be selected. To do this,
Either type in the identifier in the space provided next to the magnifying glass, or
Click on the magnifier to display a list of the existing Business Tax clients. If a client has not been used in Business Tax before it will not appear on the list until the selection in the Database View box is changed to "Whole Practice". Once the client has been found Select it.
If the client is being used for the first time in Business Tax, the following message will appear:
"This client is not a client for Business Tax. Do you want to register it as a client for this product?"
Answer "Yes" to register the business as a Business Tax client.
Once the client has been selected, Business Tax assumes the user wants to work on the most recent period end and enters in the tool bar at the top of the screen:
the most recent Accounts Production posting entry; and
the appropriate tax year
To work on a client, a Business Tax posting entry must be created.
For new clients a posting entry will be required immediately.
For existing clients a new posting entry is required;
when a menu option is selected; or
the user changes the period selected in the toolbar to a period where an entry does not exist.
When Business Tax prompts the user to start an entry, answer the question as follows,
Q : "No posting entries - make one?"
A : Select Yes. Failure to do this will result in the menus being disabled.
Q : "Enter a description for this posting file"
A : Either leave the description blank or enter your period end information and click OK.
To work on a different period,
Click on the magnifier next to the posting field, on the tool bar, to display a list of the Accounts Production posting entries.
Select the entry to be used
Business Tax automatically selects the tax year relevant to the accounting period. To amend this click on the down arrow next to the year and select the appropriate tax year.
