SmartTax

SmartTax is a way for the IRIS practice suite to utilise features and services from IRIS Elements without the need to leave your desktop.

The widget-based system allows you to choose what feature you want to view as you work.

 

Disabling/Enabling the SmartTax feature

If you find that SmartTax isn't a feature you wish to use, you can temporarily turn the ‘Sidebar’ off via the menu items.

To turn SmartTax off temporarily go to Personal Tax > Setup >  Enable SmartTax

In order to re-enable/enable SmartTax again select the above option.

 

Sizing

Due to the sizing of SmartTax and for it to bring benefit, the SmartTax feature will be automatically collapsed/disabled on resizing of Personal Tax to a small resolution.

However, SmartTax will automatically enable once Personal Tax has been restored to its maximum sizing.

 

Internet Access

SmartTax is a cloud-based technology and as a result will require a constant internet connection for the feature to return a result. Where internet connection has not been established an error message will display.

Authorisation

As SmartTax is a cloud-based technology it is possible for new widgets to be made available at any time. Certain widgets will require an active IRIS Elements account. Details of whether a particular widget requires an IRIS Elements account are covered below.

Tax Calculation

The Tax Calculation within IRIS SmartTax is designed to update as you make entries giving you a live view of your clients tax liability as your work.

You are not required to have an IRIS Elements account to access the live tax calculation feature.

 

Errors

No internet connection established

SmartTax is a cloud-based technology and requires a constant internet connection to return results. Where the situation arises that an internet connection cannot be established the following error message will display:

Connection lost please reconnect

We recommend that you check your internet connection. You can re-test the connection by selecting the Retry option which will attempt to restart the SmartTax application.

 

Unsupported income source error

You may encounter this error message if the individual has an income source which is currently not available within the SmartTax application.

In this situation, you will need to run a tax computation (Reports > Tax computation) to see the individual's tax liability.

 

Error! The tax calculation has failed due to an unexpected error. Please try again

This error is a ‘Timeout’ error, where results are taking too long to be returned. In the event you are presented with this error, please select the Retry option. This will attempt to call the feature request again.

 

An Error has occurred - Please contact our support team

This is a technical error which may be returned. If you are presented with this error message please contact our support team, Support@IRIS.co.uk

When contacting support please provide an extract of the clients’ data stating the error that has been presented.

 

Unauthorised Error

As SmartTax is a cloud-based technology, it is required for the IRIS Accountancy suite, to verify its self with IRIS Elements. In the event that this process fails this error message will be presented.

If you encounter this error message, please reset the IRIS accountancy suite by closing down the product and reopening. If this issue continues, please contact our support team Support@IRIS.co.uk
