How to resolve issues with font and double-line spacing

This document will provide advice for adjusting your normal style to stop double line spacing

Each version of word uses the 'normal' style to set defaults on font sizes, page margins, paragraph spacing and more.

Steps to follow:

  1. Load a blank Microsoft Word document. The Home tab will be selected by default.

  2. In the Styles section, right-click the Normal style.

  3. From the drop-down menu, select Modify.

The modify style screen displays.

  1. Select the font and the font size you usually use for Microsoft Word. Click Format and choose paragraph.

  1. In the spacing section change the after value to be 0 and set the line to be Single and click OK.

  1. Select New documents based on this template and click OK. The spacing goes back to normal.

The spacing will be changed automatically on all other templates on the computer. This process will need to be completed on other computers to stop double-line spacing.

Once you have ran the above steps you will need to save the Normal style template.

Saving the Normal style template

  1. Select Advanced, then on the right, scroll down to the bottom of the options and click File Locations.

  2. Double-click User Templates and make a note of the full path from the address bar of the Explorer Window.

  3. Close all of the options Windows until you are back to your blank document.

  4. Select File | Save As

  5. In Save Type As, select Word Marco-Enabled Template (the file type is .dotm).

  6. Enter the path noted in stage 3 into the address bar.

  7. Select Save and exit Word.

  8. In Windows Explorer, browse to the path from stage 3.

  9. Select Organize | Folder and Search Options and select the view tab.

  10. Deselect Hide Extensions for Known File Types and select Show Hidden Files, Folders and Drives.

  11. In Explorer you will now see a Normal.dotm and the .dotm file you have just created.

  12. Rename Normal.dotm to NormalOLD.dotm.

  13. Rename your new document to Normal.dotm.

Your chosen settings will now become the default settings in Word. Could you retry generating an AutoMail template again, if the issue persists please do contact the support team and we will investigate further.
