To follow the tutorial you need to have a set of sole trader accounts set up in Accounts Production. This tutorial assumes that you are already familiar with Accounts Production and to save time a client has been created for you and extracted on the IRIS CD using the Extract option on the Client menu in Accounts Production.
This clients extract contains:
trial balances for the years ended 31/8/2007 and 31/8/2006
specific descriptions
capital allowance data for 31/8/06
To load the client on to your machine use the following procedure:
Business Name : Hector the Builder
Business Type : Sole Trader
Business description : Builder
Commenced date : 01/09/2005
Now you will be asked how you want to categorize this new client. For the purpose of this tutorial leave the screen blank and select Next. IRIS will now display the new clients details, click Finish.
An identifier is now needed for the business, enter HECTOR and click OK.
If you have AutoMail you may be asked if you want to generate an engagement letter, for the purpose of this tutorial click Cancel.
Now you must enter the proprietor's details.
click New
Click on the magnifying glass next to Proprietor.
click New
click Next to create the new person on the IRIS database.
Surname : Hector
Title : Mr
Forename(s) : John
Initials : (completed automatically)
You will be asked how you want to categorize this new person. For the purpose of this tutorial leave the screen blank and select Next. You are now asked to check the details are correct, if they are click Finish.
Type HECTOR/S for this persons identifier and click OK.
To select Mr Hector as the proprietor:
Click OK on the "New client" message.
Click Cancel if the AutoMail screen appears.
Close the Client Maintenance screen
Mr Hector will be shown highlighted in the list of clients, click Select.
Next the traders involvement screen will be displayed. Enter the start date of 1/9/05 and click Insert.
Close the Involvements screen
Close the Client Maintenance screen to return to the main Accounts Production screen.
